Just business

Dear Laurie,

I received a startling email yesterday from a rental car company.

It said: "You have a large balance of over $500 with us and, due to no contact and no payment, we are going to have to alert the authorities today that the car has been stolen.

School vs. Finishing Education

There’s an old saying that you can finish school and even make it easy. That simply is not true of education. You never finish and it is seldom easy, but it’s always important.

Moving On

There is more turmoil in corporate America today than in the last fifty years. Companies are merging, downsizing, moving abroad and undergoing traumatic changes. This increases stress tremendously and, in many cases, impairs productivity. Employees feel compelled to work harder, do more, and thus ensure their jobs. But is that really the right answer?

Show #390: Procrastinate on purpose with Rory Vaden

Multiply your time and procrastinate on purpose. And, as you’ll hear in a 20-second clip right after you hit play for the show, Rory says time management isn’t logical, it’s emotional. And there is the crux for why we seldom do it well! He lays out some heavy paradigm shifters that, I vow, will help you finally…not manage your time (Rory states that you can’t!), but multiply it, once and for all.

Show #389: The critical necessity of rewarding work

Name the definition of success for you. The specific realities, circumstances, ingredients and outcomes. It can’t be 100% altruistic; it must contain some personal desires. Zig gives us 15 minutes onstage, discussing what we all want, how much our work life impacts everything, and the power of…love.

BAAM!

Dear Friend,

I have heard it said that an average company with a lot of momentum succeeds beyond its ability, and a great company without any momentum performs average, at best. Momentum creates opportunity and success.

Our personal life is the same.

The Gratitude Journey

I would like to invite you on a journey with me. Dad said this:

"Gratitude is the healthiest of all human emotions. The more you express gratitude for what you have, the more likely you will have even more to express gratitude for."
Zig Ziglar

Research done by Phillippa Lally and released in the European Journal of Social Psychology indicates that it takes 66 days to form a new habit.

Show #391: The story that matters most – from John Eldredge

What story matters most? What story is most relevant for you? For your family? For humanity? Could it be your own? Wait, did you know your life was a story? Do you realize the only way to make sense of and succeed in life is to understand, embrace, and fully live out your story? And last, if this is new to you, what do you do today to tangibly step into this story? Listen in as legendary author, counselor and teacher, John Eldredge, gives us a story -- on story.

Gravy on Top

Dear Friend,

You have heard this expression, or ones like it. It means “a little bit extra.”

In Louisiana Cajun country they call it lagniappe. It’s the bonus, the unexpected.

It’s the cherry on the sundae. The handwritten thank you note.

Learn More – Earn More

David Kearns, the former Chairman and CEO of the Xerox Corporation, points out that the closer we climb to the top the more we will be earning. He also observes that the longer we stay at the top, the more we must be learning. Not only is that true, it’s powerfully useful information. Unfortunately, in our society today there are too many people who “finish” school but fail to complete their education which is never completed. I hasten to add that all great universities and educational institutions are not in buildings. Truly educated people learn from their parents, children and siblings. They learn by looking, listening and then thinking about how they can use that information to be a better person and a more effective performer.

Just Start

Dear Friend,

Something big is on your heart.

Just Start.

I don’t know how.
I have never done that before.
What if I look like a fool?

Just Start.

Other people do this sort of thing, not me.
I barely know anything about it.
